This week our walk celebrated my birthday. We only had an hour to enjoy our time, but since everything is close you can get a lot done in an hour.
I thought it would be fun to include a map of the route we take on these weekend walks. This time we walked out of the Pearl District and ended up in the Alphabet District.
Elden and I starting out on Marshall St. The Slabtown Bar on NW 16th. We haven't eaten here, but I hear they have fried pickles that are really good. Hmmmm? Love the orange all over the building!
A look across I-405 into the heart of the Pearl District. The brick building in the back is Chown Pella. I am in love with this building. Gorgeous beams and brick. I need to research the history of this building, anyone know some facts? Would love to call it home someday! Next picture is a view of the exit off I-405 that you take to get to our place.
Our first stop along the way was Ace Pearl Hardware. I could get lost looking at all of the fun stuff down the many aisles, but we were on a mission that morning. Get supplies for our big project of the day, moving Mulan Jr. sets into the Venetian Theater, and birthday coffee.
For all of you artists out there, I highly recommend some time in your local hardware store. Great supplies at very reasonable prices. Plus it is fun to wander the rows and dream about what you could make with variety of items in front of you. An added bonus about our hardware store, they are pooch friendly and have treats to share. Kelsey loves spending an afternoon in here too!
Time to move on. Walking west on Glisan we cross NW 17th and see these beauties on our right.
I have seen them many times, but they always bring a color surprise to my day. As I walk along the sidewalk, I wonder which one is my favorite? I can never choose. I just love seeing all four of them together in all of their color splendor.
They were especially bright and beautiful on the sunny Sunday morning.
Of course my favorite part about seeing these houses means that I am very close to my coffee love, World Cup Coffee. Getting a Cafe au Lait from this place can transform a whole day for me.
We sat down in the comfy chairs with our delicious morning treats right next to the big shelves that house games and books to enjoy during your sojourn. This book jumped right out. Hello, it is called the orange code. It has to be good, right? Definitely intriguing enough to add it to our ever growing book list.
A quick city walk squeezed into a busy day, but oh so fun too. I really think that all of our city walks need to end at a fun eatery!
It all sounds like a lot of fun to me! And by the way, HAPPY BELATED BITHDAY!!!! Sending you lots and lots of cheerful birthday wishes!!! :)

Thanks Maria, it was a very fun morning. Love having time to just be a couple together without huge commitments to soak up our time. Still have the dream that you and I will one day share a cup of coffee together.

AWESOME post -- I love all of the orange. The world just seems to know, doesn't it? =)

Yes, it does seem to know. Plus I discovered the history of the Chown Pella, very cool! I will share in next week's post. Only a few more days until we can relax and enjoy the city again.
